- Lesson Plan for Today
- Welcome to EDAL670 Online Class today. We are looking at some
of the aspects of Module 2
- Today we begin by looking at some anxieties with impementing
technology. Please cursor down to this section: THE BRICK WALL AND OTHER
PROBLEMS as found at this website:
http://www.ed.gov/about/offices/list/os/technology/plan/rand/Teacher.html
From reading this section , what are some of the major limitations and
practical difficulties associated with incorporating technology into schools?
- Let's take a look at this site
http://www.fno.org/sum99/reluctant.html
and this statement about "Sally Jane" . Sally Jane is a technology
reluctant. Although she has been teaching as long as computers have
been known to schools, she has resisted their use while concentrating instead
upon good teaching.:
- Why are some teachers wary of the latest trend or newest
requirement in educational practice? 2. What are some characteristics of
teachers who are reluctant to use technology in instruction?
- Let's read another view of what can be done to overcome staff
resistance to technology. Go to this website
http://eduscapes.com/sessions/lumber/lumber4.htm.
What lessons has the author learned?
- Let's now look at this website (although it is older is has some
grea thoughts) http://www.fno.org/FNOSept93.html
Cursor down to Barriers to New Technology-Part One: Staff Balkanization
- Reprise by Jamie McKenzie
- MacKenzie says that "Great technology plans are unlikely to
overcome staff resistance or achieve program integration unless district or
building planners take into consideration the culture of schools and the types
of groups or factions which arise whenever change is promised or threatened. If
we were to spread teachers out along a spectrum representing the degree to
which they embrace new technologies (or any educational innovation) with
enthusiasm and comfort, most staffs would fall into three main groups:"
- What are these 3 major groups and do you know any people like
this?
- Let's now look at this article Creating Incentives for
Technology Use found here:
http://www.stocktonettc.net/tech/instruction/incentives.htm
- Let's discuss how "Incentives help ensure that teachers who
face escalating demands on their limited time receive the training they need to
prepare their students for the technological workplace of the future."
- Now let's look at this final article Technology Leadership: A Lit
Review found here:
http://imet.csus.edu/imet1/mica/technology_leadership_lit_review.htm
- Cursor down to the Section entitled Staff Development. What are
some of the most signidicant Staff Development models?
- Thanks for working through this section.
