INTRODUCTION

In this module we want to look at a very broad range of topics. One might call this a "catch-all" week where I have put everythig that didn't fit anywhere else. Not so!!

These are some very important websites related to what administrators must know about technology. Let's begin with examining some sites which are "mega-sites" for each topic.

Hardware.

What hardware will your school need and where will you go to become knowledgeable about buying the latest hardware? Here are some sites to skim through about K-12, hardware and software cost expectations.

Software.

  • Where would you go to determine if software is useful or not. Here are some excellent sites which rate software for K-12 use.
  • The purpose of the California Learning Resource Network http://clrn.org/home/ is to provide a one-stop information source that enables California educators to identify supplemental electronic learning resources that both meet local instructional needs and embody the implementation of California curriculum frameworks and standards.

Networking Issues.

Most schools and offices are networked. What does this term mean and how does a "network" work?

A network consists of two or more computers that are linked in order to share resources (such as printers and CD-ROMs), exchange files, or allow electronic communications. Go here. to find out about networks.

Spreadsheets and databases.

Part 1 - Site 1

Part 2 - Site 2

How are these useful in a school program?

A Summary:

After a district has purchased computers and installed a networking infrastructure, here are the major expenses and technology decisions for which school administrators must be prepared. TCO Checklist ( A MUST read. VERY USEFUL)
